New Music: Blue Skies - Lead track from Canicular Days, debut full-length from Norway's Dråpe.

Blue Skies:
Lead track from Canicular Days
Debut full-length from Norway's Dråpe

Norwegian quintet Dråpe, purveyors of soaring, expansive dreampop, celebrated the release on April 19th of their debut full-length, Canicular Days. The album has been issued digitally and on 12” vinyl by Norwegian independent Riot Factory. Treat yourself to the surging melancholy of the opening track, Blue Skies

Riot Factory also recently released Blue Skies on 7” vinyl. CassetteRewind.com aptly notes that Blue Skies, “With its keen attention to detail and breathtakingly vibrant nature...immediately whisks listeners away to that serene, blissful dream like world that Drape so delicately constructs with all of their material.”

The second single to be released from Canicular Days is Memories, the album’s sixth track. Memories is backed on 7” with When It’s Cold Outside, a track that doesn’t appear on Canicular Days. The initially very trippy video for When It’s Cold Outside shows the band recording and on the road, and features an exotic paw-waving oriental cat sculpture, a vintage Fostex 4-track cassette recorder, and lots of effects pedals:

Tangent time! “Dråpe” is the Norwegian word for “drop.” The album title phrase “canicular days” is synonymous with “dog days” and denotes the hottest period of the summer in the Northern Hemisphere, the stretch from early July to early September.

Oslo record store/distributor Tiger ships both Blue Skies and Canicular Days internationally. You can sample all of the tracks on Canicular Days at Wimp.
